Vale da Palha is near a wine route. That is not difficult in Portugal, as such. However, we are lucky to be close to in one of the nicest vineyards of Portugal: Cortém.
The vineyard is run with great enthusiasm by Chris and Helga. Because of their enthusiasm and the honest (organic) wine they make, this is a trip that we definitely recommend.
Quinta dos Loridos belongs to one of the larger wine producers of Portugal. Loridos makes the Alvarinho grape wine. The result is known as one of the best sparkling wines of Portugal.
The estate was developed in the sixteenth century by an Italian banker of the important Lafetat family. The environment of the wine cellar is a perfect complement to his goal: terraced gardens, a lake, a forest, vineyards, gardens and the impressive Buddha Eden.
The wine museum Alcobaça is considered one of the jewels of the national wine heritage. It is housed in a former wine cellar from 1874.
The collection of the museum is the most comprehensive in the country, composed of more than 8,500 pieces in winemaking, ethnology, traditional technology, and graphic and decorative arts. Every hour there is a guided visit. The tour ends with a small tasting.
